Cranberries are not necessarily Jamaican. I’ve never had them before migrating to the United States. They are very tart but when sweetened up and touched with a bit of spice and citrus, they are so delicious. It’s the perfect accompaniment with turkey and all the great sides of Thanksgiving.
This will be a very short cook and something you can make ahead before Thanksgiving day. Save yourself some time and make and bottle this the day before.

Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh cranberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- Zest from 1/2 an orange
- Pinch of nutmeg
Instructions
- Boil water and sugar in a medium saucepan on high heat, stirring to dissolve sugar.
- Add rinsed cranberries, lower the heat and allow them to cook until they burst, about 10 minutes.
- Stir in orange zest and nutmeg after the sauce reduces and thickens.
- Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
Notes
Notes: Frozen cranberries may also be used for this dish but why would you want to do that?
